MSS Late July Newsletter & Winter Updates

They’re OPEN!! The highly anticipated Via Ferrata Corbet’s Routes opened on July 18th. These soon-to-be legendary routes explore the vertical terrain in and around Corbet’s Couloir and the feature known as Piggy’s Pocket. Rebar rungs, lollipops and two bridges (a triple cable and a double cable) trace two distinct routes up the wall ending just below Tower 5. Our guides are excited to get out onto the new terrain and the guests are thrilled to climb on this storied piece of JH lore.

Many of you may have heard that Mike Kohler, an MSS alumni, was involved in a major motorcycle accident several weeks ago. He is currently in Idaho Falls in ICU being treated for his injuries. The main injury is to his leg; he has had several surgeries so far and may require more. For the time being he has requested no visitors; we’ll let you know when he is ready to see us. A GoFundMe site has been set up; please help support Mike by donating here: https://gofund.me/16429dff3. Join us in sending powerful, fierce healing thoughts and energy to Mike.

Before we get down to the season we all think about the most (winter!), we want to invite you to an MSS Summertime Winter-Staff get-together. We are targeting the last week of August; Richard Morse is in the process of locking down the date and caterer. We will be at the Owen Burcher Park in Wilson. As soon as we have details, we will send them to you!

Winter

We are currently testing and setting up our private lesson, class lesson, backcountry guide, and adaptive products in Snowcloud, with the goal of opening winter sales in early August.

Snowcloud and the JHMR Business Systems team are also preparing a release this week that will add several core functions, including scheduling, pay, and instructor-managed bookings. We will keep you updated on our progress and let you know as soon as you can begin booking guests.

The Mountain Sports School job portal will go live on August 1. Paul has been screening candidates for season 2026-27 since season 25-26 ended! He has had approximately 60 conversations and made a significant number of ‘provisional’ offers. We will be keeping the staff roughly the same size as last year with a hiring class of approximately 85-90 new instructors across all positions and disciplines.

Speaking of Jobs, we have three management team positions available this year. We are currently taking applications for a Pioneer Manager (3-4 year old program), Explorer Supervisor (8-14 year old program) and a Snowboard Supervisor. If you are interested in learning more, feel free to reach out to Paul (paul.franzeim@jacksnhole.com) or Lexey (lexey.wauters@jacksonhole.com). If you want to apply, click here JHMR

Applications for winter childcare will go live on August 3. You will receive them in an email from Hailey.

Winter Season 2026-27 Returning Staff Job Offers are coming soon!

The overall process will still feel familiar: you will receive a returning instructor offer, review your position details, and let us know whether you plan to accept or decline. The difference this year is that instructors who accept their offer will also need to complete an Intent to Return Form and accept an additional Job Offer before we can complete the hiring and onboarding process.

Step 1: Review Your Returning Instructor Offer

This will look the same as in previous years. Your returning instructor offer will include your position title, department, product zone, status, base wage, priority group, preseason point of contact, instructor cohort or training group, schedule request deadline, onboarding deadline, and anticipated schedule start date.

Please read your offer carefully. If you have questions or believe that any of the information on the offer is incorrect, reach out to your designated pre-season point of contact. They are listed on your offer.

We will keep you up to date, and anticipate sending offers around Labor Day.

Step 2: Accept or Decline Your Offer

Once you receive your offer, use the response link provided to accept or decline. We ask that you respond by the indicated deadline. If you accept your offer, your acceptance will be recorded and you will receive a confirmation email with your next step.

If you are declining, please still submit your response. Knowing who is not returning is just as important as knowing who is coming back, and it allows us to make accurate hiring plans for the winter.

Step 3: Complete the Intent to Return Form

New this year: after you accept your offer, you will receive a confirmation email that includes a private link to complete the Winter 2026–27 Intent to Return form. This form is required before we can continue your onboarding process.

The Intent to Return form may look and feel similar to a job application. Completing the Intent to Return form helps us confirm returning staff, begin the required HR workflow, prepare onboarding materials, and plan staffing across product zones. The sooner this step is completed, the smoother the rest of your preseason process will be.

Step 4: Respond to the Lyric© Human Resources Returning Instructor Job Offer

Watch for your Returning Instructor Offer email. While this step may feel redundant, it is necessary for your on-boarding process. For HR to complete your on-boarding process (get you hired!), you MUST accept this offer. When you accept, you will also be asked to approve a background check. As in the past, this is mandatory for all MSS employees .

Important Notes About Lyric and the Form

  • The Intent to Return form is connected to the hiring process, but it is not the same as logging into your employee ADP Lyric account.

  • You may be asked to enter an email address and complete a two-step verification process.

  • Use the email address you check most often, since you will need access to that inbox during the sign-in process.

  • If you already have an ADP or ADP Lyric profile, the form will not automatically recognize that information.

  • On the privacy page, scroll all the way to the bottom and check the required acknowledgement before continuing.

  • Completing the Intent to Return form does not guarantee employment and does not create an employment contract.

Questions?

We know this is a new process and appreciate your patience as MSS and HR continue refining the workflow. If you have questions or run into trouble, please reach out to James (james.huffman@jacksonhole.com), Lexey (Lexey.wauters@jacksonhole.com) or Ashley (Ashley.toon@jacksonhole.com).

From today- July 28- there are 122 days until the lifts run. Whoop whoop!! We are excited to move into the season with you and look forward to seeing you back on the hill this winter. In the meantime, we hope you are enjoying a great summer and all of its activities. And we really hope to see you at the end of August for our gathering at Owen Bircher park.
