Mountain Sports School Team,
I hope this message finds you well and as excited as I am for the upcoming season. With the start of the winter season on Friday, I want to extend a warm welcome to each of you and share some important updates as we look forward to an exciting winter together.
First, I want to acknowledge that the loss of Peter Wuerslin continues to weigh heavily on me, as I’m sure it does for many of you. Peter was a huge part of our community for nearly 40 years, and I know his absence will be deeply felt by many of us this winter. I invite you to join me in honoring Peter’s memory by embracing creativity, adventure, and kindness; qualities he exemplified.
As we prepare for the new season, safety on the mountain remains our top priority, and we’re taking additional steps to ensure a safer environment for everyone. Our focus this year will be on reducing reckless skiing and riding through enhanced education, enforcement, and operational adjustments. Our main educational initiative is centered on the NSAA Triangle of Safety principles: managing your speed, your space, and yourself. These three principles will be woven into every lesson we teach, reinforcing a culture of shared responsibility on the mountain. You can review them here: NSAA Triangle of Safety Video.
This season brings new energy to our team with our first full winter under the new ownership and management structure. With this fresh focus, we’re excited to roll out a series of enhancements to elevate the guest experience:
The new Sublette Lift is fully installed and ready to run. The ride time will be faster with four-minute ascents, and more comfortable with 72 European-style comfort chairs.
In partnership with SNOW Operating, we’re enhancing the beginner skier/rider experience with Terrain-Based Learning features in the Solitude beginner area.
We are introducing early season camps for Rough Rider and Explorer aged children. Those will be held on December 7th–8th and 14th–15th.
The Tram Dock, formerly known as RPK3, will open its doors with a refreshed, warmer atmosphere that honors the rich history, character, and heritage of Jackson Hole Mountain Resort, featuring a menu of Western pub fare and a lively bar scene.
At Solitude North, the newly named Trapper’s restaurant is now a table-service, fine dining experience, offering our guests elevated dining and après options on the mountain.
The former MSS Sales and Rental area at Solitude Station has been converted into a lounge and gear storage facility accessible by a limited number of Solitude Station Access Pass Holders. I want to acknowledge that this is a big change for us and that there are concerns about indoor space for beginners. Please know that we remain committed to ensuring all staff and guests feel welcome at Solitude. Trapper’s is a public space and will be open for morning warm-ups, and outdoor spaces and restrooms continue to be accessible to everyone.
The updates across the resort set the stage for an incredible winter, and it’s your dedication to genuine human connection and our mission of ‘Igniting the Spirit of Adventure’ that truly make JHMR and the Jackson Hole Mountain Sports School exceptional. I’m grateful to work with such a talented, committed team of inspired professionals, and I can’t wait to see you all on the mountain on Friday. Let’s make this season one to remember!
Sincerely,
Matt
