Summer News

Summer in Teton Village is ON!

The Teton Mountain Runs were hosted at Teton Village the weekend of July 15-16 featuring 15K, 30K, and 50K races. Over 500 runners participated, with 60% of them coming from outside our regional area and representing 7 different countries. A new course record of 5 hours 32 minutes was set in the 50K, which boasted a cumulative 9,000-foot vertical gain!

The classic Rendezvous Hill Climb is coming up on Saturday, August 5th. This Chris Onufer memorial race is 6 miles and 4,100’ vertical of single track, wildflowers and views. All proceeds from this race go to the Friends of Pathways. The elusive sub-1:00:00 time to the top is still up for grabs - $2,000.00 prize to the first person to achieve it.

Construction projects around the Village are moving forward as well. The Bear Flats cabin relocation was completed last week.

Winter News

At the close of each season, all the supervisors get together to debrief the winter - what went well, what we can improve, and what we want to add or change. This year we took a strong look at the end-of-the-year survey that many of you filled out. We learned a LOT from these surveys.

Taking the information from these meetings and surveys, the core management group then sets our strategic priorities for the summer and next season. This year, the main priorities identified were products, training, and staffing. We are excited to share what we have been talking about! We will roll out this information over several newsletters throughout the remainder of the summer and fall.

So - what’s new for MSS products?

The Pioneer Private - targeted for our youngest skiers! With a max 2:1 ratio (3 & 4 year-olds only) and staffed exclusively through the Kids Ranch staff, this private will help our youngest skiers/snowboarders get their boots on the ground. This will also limit our "regular" privates to 5 years old or older.

Max 4 for Adult Group lessons - we are moving to limiting our adult groups to a max of 4 students- including our first day beginners. We are confident this will increase the already very high quality of the product and produce more work for this adult group instructors.

New camps this year!

We are introducing five (!) new camps this season-

  • Beginner Progression Camp - a three-day camp introducing visitors to our great sport- Dec 8-10, 2023

  • Early Season Performance Camp - A tune up camp running from Dec 12-13, 2023

  • Three new backcountry camps

    • Early season BC Tune-Up - geared towards our local backcountry adventurers. A 2 day program focused on reviewing backcountry travel and safety

    • Women’s "Beyond the Boundary" Backcountry Camp- an opportunity for women to learn the basics from the beginning

    • Corn Harvest Camp - a spring camp geared towards big spring tours (conditions permitting)

All Mountain Sports School products will go on sale August 1st. Getting these updates and additions nailed down and priced was a robust effort from the whole summer crew.

Also happening on August 1- the winter job portal goes live. There will be more information to come regarding winter staffing. However, as a headline note- we are looking to hire up to 125 of the best new instructors we can find. Please encourage friends and family that you know and think would be amazing at this job to apply!

Signing off with a quick “cool things ski instructors do in the summer” moment- Dave “the Wave” Muccino competing in barefoot skiing comps- he’s going to the World Championships!
