New hires celebrating the best early season conditions JHMR has seen in years.

We'd say this photo sums up our early season well! With 186" of snow already and perfect temperatures for snowmaking, 2022-23 is off to a great start. After a surprise employee ski day on November 23rd and Thanksgiving Day off, employee stoke at the Jackson Hole Mountain Resort is high. The holiday rush is nearly here; we wanted to share some information to make the upcoming busy stretch as smooth as possible for you all.

Safety Please keep safety in the forefront of your mind. Early-season conditions still exist even with a snowy start to the year. Transitions between groomers and off-piste are still often treacherous, with buried obstacles and abrupt edges. Practice good sense out on the hill: watch your surroundings closely, monitor your fatigue levels (most of us are still skiing/riding ourselves into shape), and take good care of your gear to reduce your odds of injury. Treat the season as a marathon, not a sprint. We want you all to be safe, healthy, and happy through the entire season. Stretch, yoga, eat well, sleep, hydrate, and take care of yourselves!

If you do get hurt while working, the first step is to let your supervisor know immediately. If you are seeking medical attention, you must start at the Teton Village Clinic. Clinic staff can refer you as needed for further treatment, but you must start there.

For injury outside of work, JHMR participates in the Spot Insurance Program. For $63 for the season you get up to $25K in accidental medical expenses per injury obtained while skiing or riding at the Jackson Hole Mountain Resort (inbounds). Click HERE for more details.

Events & Celebrations

Join us for the Thunder Grand Opening event this Saturday, December 17th! The ceremony will run from 10-10:30am with words from President Mary Kate Buckley and owner Jay Kemmerer. JHMR's Senior Team and Board of Directors will also be in attendance. The Chanman Roots Band will provide live music starting with the first load at 10:30am, and marketing will pass out Thunder schwag.

Please note that Thunder will not load anyone until after the ceremony is over (10:30am), so please plan accordingly with your guests on Saturday morning.

All MSS staff are invited to the new hire party at 4pm this Saturday at the Kids Ranch! Absolutely no early birds, please. Dress warmly to prepare for cold outdoor temps. Music, sodas, seltzers, adult beverages for staff who are 21+, and some food will be available. Bring your dancing shoes!

Sweetwater Gondi Closure As many of you know, the motor for the Sweetwater gondola failed and must be replaced. Jimmi Marrot and his gondola maintenance team will work through the night of Monday, December 19th to replace the faulty motor. Sweetwater will not operate on Tuesday-Wednesday, December 20th-21st, due to load testing and commissioning. We anticipate SW reopening on Thursday, Dec 22nd and will post an update on your ProCard home page when reopening is confirmed.

We have a couple options for staff with lockers at Solitude. There will be limited capacity to store gear at the base area at the Cody House (cubby room) or Bridger Basement. Please contact Lexey (Bridger) or Hailey/Steve (Cody House) with questions.

Also, our Mountain Operations staff is ready to give rides up to Mid-station via snowmobile on Tuesday and Wednesday. Rides will start at 7:30am, and we can take 6 people per load. Please be patient with the snowmobile drivers as each lap takes time.

Adult and Explorer lessons will meet at the base on December 21st and 22nd, and return to normal operations once Sweetwater is operational.

Business Volume Updates

Our business volumes for the week before Christmas will likely be lower than we’ve seen in recent years due to school break schedules. If you have any clients who are on the fence about coming, please encourage them to book for next week. Also, if you need more hours than your are scheduled for next week, please email Julia to inquire about options to work in other departments.

Early Load Info

Early skiing is coming! Sweetwater, Teewinot and Apres Vous will open to the public at 8:30am starting on December 17th. Be there for the best corduroy of the day!

On a related note, please remember you must have your employee pass to load Sweetwater in the morning to get to your Solitude locker. Non-skiing guests may load SW without lift access only once the lift opens to the public (9 am on weekdays, 8:30 am on weekends and holidays). No general public may load SW before it is open for the day, whether in ski boots or street shoes.

Appearance

With the holiday rush around the corner, please remember our focus on creating connections and how our appearance affects first impressions. Please review the appearance and grooming guidelines form the employee handbook.

  • Your uniform should be neat, clean, and in good repair at all times with your nametag visible. Please only wear your uniform at work.

  • Facial hair, including beards, mustaches and sideburns, needs to be clean and neatly trimmed. Please don’t start growing a beard or mustache during the season.

  • If your hair extends beyond your uniform collar, please be sure that it is tied back. No radical styles or colors are permitted.

  • Facial piercings must be small and unobtrusive.

If you need any uniform replacement pieces, please email Toni Walsh with the size and item you need to swap out. The sooner you reach out, the more likely we are to still have your size available! Please ensure your uniform is looking and smelling clean as well. You may find instructions on washing your uniform HERE.

Online Orientation Training

Please complete your online orientation training by Thursday, December 22nd. The training is paid and must be completed to receive your lift access vouchers. If you complete your training with a score of 31 or higher, HR will email you your vouchers within 72hrs. Please email HR@jacksonhole.com if you do not see them within 3 days or need to request them expedited.

It has been a pleasure to see familiar faces flooding back into our locker rooms, and to get to know our new staff during the past few weeks. Enjoy the last days of quiet out on the hill and have a successful holiday rush!
